Hypnosis is a natural state, similar to daydreaming. It’s a focused state of awareness that we enter several times a day, like when we’re driving, watching TV, or reading. Rather than being a state of sleep, it’s when your conscious and subconscious mind align with your goals. By relaxing, thinking positively, and focusing on what you want to achieve, hypnosis can help change unwanted habits, feelings, and behaviours.
-
Hypnotherapy combines psychotherapy (talking therapies) with hypnosis. By using hypnosis to bypass the critical, conscious part of the mind, we can reprogram the unconscious, leading to positive changes in thought processes. When guided by a trained professional, hypnotherapy’s effects are both positive and long-lasting.
-
Hypnotherapy is completely safe with no harmful side effects. It’s a 100% natural state, and no one can be hypnotised against their will. While in trance, you’ll remain aware of your surroundings, and you will only accept suggestions that are right for you.
-
Yes, you’ll remain fully in control throughout. Hypnotherapy is not like stage hypnosis. You won’t get ‘stuck’ in trance and can return to full alertness at any time.
-
People experience hypnosis differently, but it’s always relaxing. Some feel deeply relaxed, others light and calm. You may recall everything, or only parts of the session. It’s a comfortable, safe process.
-
In your first session, we’ll discuss what you’d like help with, explore your hopes for therapy, and I’ll explain how the process works, including how the brain operates. This helps you understand the experience and gives us a framework to create a personalised therapy plan.
Each session includes positive reflection, solution focused discussions, and relaxing hypnosis, where your subconscious will embed the positive changes we work on. After each session, many clients feel rested and revitalised. -
This depends on the individual and how deeply the issue affects you. However, Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is known for working quickly. For many, 6 to 12 sessions are common, though for issues like specific phobias, it may take as few as 4 sessions. In the initial session, we will discuss your needs, and then I’ll give you a clearer idea of the number of sessions likely required.
-
Yes! There’s a growing body of evidence that online hypnotherapy is just as effective as in-person sessions.

Hypnotherapy has a proven track record of helping with both psychological and physical issues. The NHS now employs Solution-Focused Hypnotherapists to support patients with chronic conditions and persistent pain.
However, as with any therapy, results can’t be guaranteed. Your commitment to the process is key – attending sessions, practising what you learn, and listening to the relaxation MP3 are all vital parts of making progress and achieving the changes you want. -
I’m a Solution Focused Hypnotherapist. This approach is forward-looking, focusing on solutions for the future rather than delving into past problems. While I’ll always acknowledge and be sensitive to your past difficulties, we won’t need to revisit or ‘fix’ past traumas.

All hypnotherapists should belong to a professional body, with proof of membership, training, insurance, and a current DBS certificate available. These credentials should be visible on their website and available upon request.
I am a member of the National Council for Hypnotherapy, the Association for Solution Focused Hypnotherapists, and The Hypnotherapy Association. I’m fully insured, supervised, and hold an enhanced DBS certificate.
