Sobriety
I stopped drinking 10 years ago on the eve of my 40th birthday. I had been dreading the inevitable post-party doom-fuelled hangover and realised that I didn’t need to do this anymore. It sounds simple but trying to stop or curb binge drinking was something I had been struggling with throughout my adult life.
At the time, I was using Solution Focused Hypnotherapy for other events in my life, and as a result, my anxiety levels were lower, allowing me to make more rational decisions about what was best for me. Over the years, this has become easier and is now my new normal. Slowly, others around me have accepted my choices. Now, 10 years on, I like to inspire and support others to stop or reduce drinking or recreational drug use if that is their goal.
There are many reasons why we drink alcohol or take recreational drugs, and just as many reasons why we want to stop but keep returning to it. Whether it’s due to social anxiety, our identity, perceived or real pressures from others, finding ways to relax, or perhaps the love-hate relationship with it—you want to stop, but part of you still enjoys it.
Each weekly session involves a mix of psychological support and deep relaxation/hypnosis to help you move towards your goal. In between sessions, you’ll listen to a relaxation MP3. The sessions are usually fun and upbeat, Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is all about looking forward to the life you truly want, and really seeing and believing that it’s possible. Whether your goal is attending a social event sober, becoming fitter and healthier, or living without hangovers and dread, I can support you using SFH to help you meet your goal.
If you are physically dependent on alcohol or drugs, I recommend seeking help from your GP or a medical professional specialising in alcohol and addiction.
How many sessions will I need?
We can discuss this in the intro call or the first session. The number of sessions you need will vary. Everybody is different.
An average of 8-12 sessions will be required for stress-related problems and anxiety.
Specific phobias such as a fear of flying or spiders will usually require about 4 sessions.
